Katy Mckenzie

Katy Mckenzie is as talented as she is tall, standing a statuesque 5’10”. She’s a gifted singer/songwriter with a penchant for clever and catchy lyrics.  She has a fresh, sweet yet sultry, country/pop sound with a twist of folk. She’s young at heart, but with an old soul which comes through in her music. People liken her to the perfect combination of Swift, Lambert and Musgraves. With her first EP to be released in early 2016, Katy is making her own mark on the country music scene and leaving fans wanting more wherever she goes.

Coming from a musically enhanced family, Katy’s love of playing music was first inspired by her late grandfather. During family gatherings he was often playing Mexican Cojunto music on his accordion, guitar or playing the piano while the family would often sing along. It was songwriting at the age of 12 that lured Katy to learn to play the guitar herself. Having taken piano lessons as a young child, Katy decided to teach herself how to play guitar. “When I began to truly love to play, the bridge to music and writing came almost instantaneously”, explains Katy. Singing and songwriting has become a passion for Katy.

Katy was honored to have been chosen to perform at the 2015 San Antonio Mayoral and City Council Inauguration. She was also recently featured in San Antonio Monthly Magazine in October where she was named Local Musician of the Month. Earlier this year, Katy was awarded a new Epiphone Gibson guitar which was presented to her by a Gibson Guitars Executive.

Katy has been fortunate to have performed at the prestigious Tobin Center for the Performing Arts for the Official SA Fiesta Poster Unveling, the legendary San Antonio concert venue, The White Rabbit and the historic Gruene Hall as well as other area live music venues and festivals such as The Cove and SA Stock Show and Rodeo. Katy has appeared on San Antonio lifestyle and entertainment television shows: KABB Fox 29’s Daytime @ Nine with Kimberly Crawford, KENS 5’s Great Day SA with Bridget Smith, KSAT 12’s SA Live with hosts Jeff Roper and Fiona Gorostiza, WOAI Focus on South Texas with Erin Nichols and Where’s Cleto news segment on News4 San Antonio Today with Cleto Rodriguez.

If you’re fortunate enough to catch a live performance, you will find yourself singing along in anthem to her signature original song “Freedom” or sitting back enjoying her pleasantly sweet and smooth vocals, unforgettable melodies and lyrics; and singing them long after you have gone home. There’s no doubt that many more opportunities and success lie ahead for this talented artist. Big dreams, aspirations, passion and a heart and soul for music drive Katy to continue to work hard on her craft, write songs and perform anywhere she can.
